While humiliation is fun at times, it’s not totally my cup of tea. I’d
much rather give a good beating than a lashing of the tongue. ~~~~~~~/\\//\\//\\/~~~~~~~ SCENEsubmissions November 23rd, 2003 ~~~~~~~/\\//\\//\\/~~~~~~~ In my Father’s House, There Are Many Mansions - an Excerpt from Ties That Bind By Guy Baldwin Black Rose 2003 – By Flirticia, Director of Rose & Thorn of Vermont Review of Fetish Photographer Barbara Nitke’s Book: Kiss of Fire – By Sensuous Sadie Why Don’t You Make Me – Poem By Screamer Website of the Week ADMINISTRIVIA This Newsletter Online with Photos: www.sensuoussadie.com/newsletter.htm About Sadie and the Mission of this Newsletter How to Subscribe to this Free Newsletter Publishing Policy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/\\//\\//\\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In my Father’s House, There Are Many Mansions - an Excerpt from Ties That Bind By Guy Baldwin Ties That Bind can be found at www.amazon.com It has always been relatively easy to talk about the technical parts of the SM/leather scene- how to handle a whip or do an electrical scene- probably because these things aren’t very personal. So we learn, "Attach shackle (A) to wrist (B)...," and so on. While this kind of information is certainly important, there are other aspects of the leather/SM experience that we have very carefully avoided mentioning for too long. One man in Texas said to me, "My buddies would laugh at me if I told them what happens in my mind sometimes when I play." So, he doesn’t tell, and they don’t laugh. As you may have guessed, he was referring to the spiritual-transcendental? mystical? -experiences he has when he plays. This guy is not alone. Many feel that it is not hot, or not butch to admit to such thoughts. Leather dykes have been talking openly about spiritual angles of the leather/SM scene for a long time, but most men are still shy about bringing them up. It may come as a surprise to some of you, but the leather/SM lifestyle does bring up spiritual and religious issues for lots of guys in the scene. A man in New York with a Pentecostal background is concerned about his salvation; another wants information about his out-of-body experiences when in bondage. Fears about demonic possession dominate a guy who takes me aside to chat about it in Seattle . A Catholic in Dallas asks me about becoming a monk so that, maybe, he can whip himself without risking sin. A guy from Denver writes to ask about a possible relationship between meditation and submission. Another asks if he is confusing endorphins with spiritual ecstasy. ..... When the spiritual aspects of SM/leather/fetish sexualities are paid attention to, they can add to who we are as people by increasing intimacy. As I have often said, sexualities that keep us apart only diminish us as people. ~~~ Copyright 2003 This excerpt is reprinted here with the explicit permission of the publisher. The Washington-based Black Rose group puts together a package for a registration fee and price per night for hotel accommodations. This included a full breakfast each day, shuttles to the play space, and shuttles between the host and overflow hotels. It also included access to the vendors area, shows put on by Black Rose and all of the workshops and classes provided. The host hotel was totally sold out to Black Rose, and kinksters could strut their stuff wearing all kinds of fet wear. The same was true for the play space. In the common areas of the hotel it was preferred that people be street legal. (something covering your genitals.) The sky was the limit otherwise. There were over 50 vendors in the vendors area from many parts of the country with fantastic deals and sales for the Black Rose community. The play space was a dungeon one mile from the US Capitol building in Washington - we could see the dome from the building - called the Crucible. It was a large warehouse with over 150 individual play stations. This included a massage area, waxing/fireplay tables, a complete medical play room, and interrogation room, a social/food area, a juice bar, and every piece of dungeon equipment imaginable. It was open from 9 pm to 3 am each evening. During the day, we attended classes/workshops or socialized/ate with other kinky folk. Examples of some of the topics were: Basic Needle Insertion and Safety, Bondage for Sex Workshop, Branding, An Historical Perspective of Kinky Sex, Advanced caning, Ask the Doctor, Build your own Remote-controlled TENS Unit, Electric Orgasms, Florentine Flogging, Female Genitorture, Shibari 101, Saline Inflation and Temporary Body Modification, The art of anal training, Whips 101, and many more. My personal favorite was a talk on "interrogations" the same person gave a chat on Abductions. He was funny, safety minded, but oh so sadistic. He described many ways to get to a person. One example was tying someone to a chair and making them listen and watch Barney singing the Barney Song for over four hours. *chuckles*. On a personal level, as a switch I bottomed to a Sir Stephen from the Washington area for a whip scene. Sir Stephen is very talented and is capable of throwing whips from both hands simultaneously. It was an incredible scene. More exciting for me, it was my first attempt at being a 24/7 Top for my submissive "Cowboy." We did many wonderful scenes even eliciting some applause at the end by casual observers. I pushed his boundaries by entering him in the Dom/sub auction. He went on stage in only a leather bondage harness. He didn’t want to, but was auctioned off with a high bid from Mz. Angela. This ended in my supervising two scenes. One between him and Mz. Angela and the other to the losing bidder Miss Christa. Both were quite skilled and thrilled to scene with him. Even more wonderful than those "scenes" however were the lives that we touched and shared our experiences with. Folks were friendly, helpful, caring and quickly became treasured friends. As an example, the very last night in one of My and Cowboys most explosive scenes a Dom approached me asking me to teach his submissive how to do basic flogging and cbt. I was flattered, and spent the next hour and a half with them. She was shy and embarrassed but quickly learned and enjoyed the lesson. The following is an except from the long letter I received from them upon arriving back home. More than anything I could write, this epitomizes the shared experience and beauty and wonders of Black Rose. I hope that all of you at some time in your lives take time to experience Black Rose or a similar event. Dear Flirt and cowboy: Thank you both for your open and honest friendship. I was worried that Twink would find Black Rose 04 not to her liking. Actually the opposite, she was "tweaked" and enjoyed your lesson. She had wanted to see play and be involved but was embarrassed by her interest, both your energies were transforming and gave her the courage to follow her desires. I am the one that owes you both, as you have moved our relationship along further than any one element of intimacy we have experienced. I wish that all of you were coming to sin city. She stares out at me with a slightly fanatical glint in her eye, a glint that reflects of the tart beauty of her art. Her fetish photography is not the pseudo porn slop littered across the internet. No girls gazing up and pleading, "please rescue me." No perfectly formed breasts glowing with perfect lighting. No close-ups of giant penises, milk spurting out like Old Faithful. Nor is her photography the kind of photos that I have so often done of myself – portraits designed to make me look glamorous and sexy, but mostly devoid of real BDSM content. Instead we see the very real players of the New York City BDSM scene. Real women and men, big and small, thin and fat, dressed in glamour and dressed in nothing. All of them expressing the mystique that happens between two people exploring BDSM together. The agony of a hard whipping, the tenderness of aftercare, the laughter after an odd moment. Barbara’s photos are far more than beautiful lighting and glowing body parts. Instead she captures the intimacy, mystery, and darkness of our world. Kiss of Fire is a beautiful coffee table book with over 60 stunning photographs published on a glossy paper stock. Each photograph is notated, sharing the secrets behind each story. At the end of the book, I felt as if she had invited me into this secret world, peering around her and her camera into these beautiful scenes for a glimpse of something elusive. I found this book a wonderful way to share BDSM with a friend, not the practical how-to-tie-them-up stuff, but the intangible mystery that makes our explorations truly unique.
