Dear Readers,
I wanted to let everyone know that I'm going on sabbatical, so there
will be a change in format in this newsletter. I am ending the summer
series with this love letter to Griffin, which feels as sad and
bittersweet as I do. There are some columns after this one where I
shared some of my grief over losing him, but I thought that wouldn't be
a very hopeful a way to end the summer so I didn't publish them. If
you'd like to read them they are in the Art of BDSM Columns section on
my website.
Starting next Sunday I'll be running an abbreviated
version of this newsletter which will include just one of my own columns
or newsletters every week. This will allow me to take a break without
worrying about collecting new material.
My website will continue to be up and active as always. If you didn't
know, there are over 500 pages there of my own writing, interviews,
articles, art and photography from a variety of talented people in the
scene. I hope you will visit and check some of it out at
www.sensuoussadie.com
PS if you'd like to read about why I'm taking a sabbatical, you can read
about it here:

This Summer Reading Series
This is part a series of columns called "My Travels with Griffin."
It's the story of my relationship with Griffin, with a focus on our
mutual exploration of BDSM and spirituality. Since the series is about
fifteen columns long, I thought it would be easier to follow the story
if I ran them every week in a row. Griffin approved publication of every
single column. Please keep in mind that this story started in December
of 2002. These columns can also be found in my "Art of BDSM" columns
section on my website at http://sensuoussadie.com/columnlist.htm
. You can also read the interview with Griffin at http://sensuoussadie.com/interviews/griffininterview.htm

mentioned – it's posted with the article on my website:

A Love Letter to Griffin
By Sensuous Sadie

Dear Griffin,
One day last summer when I was grieving for a friend who had passed
away, you climbed the hill into the woods behind my house. Soon I heard
the sad clear notes of your flute, carried by a summer's breeze to my
window. I knew you were there loving me from afar and that your music
was meant to heal me.
To celebrate the new year with you, I bought you a ceramic flute shaped
like a teardrop and hand painted in bold colors. It's made by the Kuna
Indians which are a matriarchal society living on an island called San
Blas Archipelago. I liked that their society has a strong feminine
element because it is that quality that I value most in you.
The sad part is that I wasn't able to give you this gift before you left
the BDSM scene. Your unexpected departure has been traumatic for both of
us, but I won't compromise your privacy by publishing details of your
journey. Instead, I have wrapped up your gift and will hold it until I
see you again. It is my statement of faith that you will be returned not
only to me, but to all the people who love you, healthy and full of
God's presence. Whether it takes a month, a year, or forever, this is my
promise to you that I will be the friend I promised to be. Even if I
cannot now or ever be your lover, I will be there for you if you need
me, just as you were there for me when I was sick with grief. If you
open this gift and it turns out you no longer love me, then I will
accept the smaller gift that keeping my promise meant.
I believe that love transcends fear. I believe that God will care for
you and guide your path. I believe that the love I have for you will
somehow help you through your darkness into light, even if you cannot
feel my presence or my prayer.
Just as you played your flute to heal me - knowing that I could only
barely hear it - I will play my flute for you. I know you are too far
away to hear all the notes, but I hope the breeze will bring its sound
aloft to your window.
Love always,
~ Sadie
